My Desk
I'm a bit of a geek, and I do find some joy in the tools I use, but I'm also trying not to be obsessed with stuff so I generally only add things to this list if I find them to be useful. Most of my tools are old and only get replaced when they can no longer be repaired.
Click a thing in the image above to learn more about it. I made this page partly because I wanted to make an image map with a silly amount of things to click on.
Spike and Faye from Coyboy Bebop. I got these as part of a gift exchange.
~top~Used to store all kinds of stuff: microphone accessories, saxophone accessories, misc small cords, stationary, etc.
~top~I think I picked this up on a school band trip, back in the '90s.
~top~Selmer reed case.
~top~Yamaha Custom M1 tenor saxophone neck, Otto Link Super Tone Master 4* tenor saxophone mouthpiece (the gold one), Meyer 7J tenor saxophone mouthpiece (the silver one).
~top~My beloved Lenovo T420. Originally purchased secondhand to run Ableton Live at performances, it's since been turned into my everyday machine, running Ubuntu Linux. From here, I run VPSs, write fiction, read RSS feeds, and do most of my daily computing things. I'm using it right now to edit this page. ♥
~top~Korg Microkorg. This little workhorse is being used as a MIDI controller a lot these days, but it's still such a great little synth for live shows and even recording.
~top~Just a wireless keyboard, but I've been using it for over 20 years now. I've had my eye on others, but if it ain't broken...
~top~A $10 Logitech mouse on a CJTR mousepad. Support Community Radio
~top~20+ year old Harman/Kardon speakers and subwoofer package. Just fine for listening to tunes while working, but not acceptable as studio monitors. I frequently have to rent monitors when working on a project. It's not ideal. One day, I'll buy some decent monitors. One day...
~top~Heritage brand wooden musical spoons. I play these frequently in The Lincoln Loggers, along with sax, guitar, and banjo. :)
~top~Steinberg UR44 audio interface plus a kazoo and banjo picks.
~top~A couple old monitors, purchased for $20 each from an old employer.
~top~Logitech C920S Pro HD webcam.
~top~Zoom H4n box being used as a monitor stand. That little recorder is the gift that keeps on giving. Very hand tool!
~top~Audio-Technica ATH-M50x. Recently purchased to replace my beloved 10-year-old modified Fostex pair that finally died after nearly daily use. Frankly, they're not living up to the task. They sound good enough, but they hurt the ears after about an hour of use. :(
~top~A bit of a Frankenstein machine with several upgrades. Originally purchased from the same old workplace as those monitors. I think I paid $60 initially.
~top~Some posters for inspiration.
